Kashmir is blessed by nature's bounty and God made it as an example of heaven on this planet with beautiful valleys, snow-capped mountains, rivers, alpine meadows, and beautiful people and a paradise of lush flora and a people who are as warm as the inherent spirit of the city. The beauty of this region has influenced the many emperors like the Mughal emperor who fell in love with the landscape of lily-laden lakes inn the backdrop of mighty Himalayas decorated with manicured waterfront gardens, now collectively known as the Mughal Gardens. Its most attractive places are the picturesque lakes rimmed with Shikaras (houseboats). However, some of the important attractions of Kashmir valley are: Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, Chashma Shahi, Pari Mahal, Hazratbal Mosque, Jama Masjid, Shankaracharya Temple, Makhdoom Sahib, Martand, Awantipur.
